Fundraising and Development (Specialization)

The Fundraising and Development Specialization offered by University of California takes roughly 5 months to complete. The online specialization consists of four individual online courses Fundraising and Development Foundations, Annual Campaigns: Building a Case for Support, Major and Principal Gifts and Planned Giving. Each course can be audited for free. However, learners who want to obtain certification can either sign up for the entire specialization with access to all courses or each individual course for an extra fee.

The specialization is designed to get participants started for a career in Fundraising. You will learn about the basic terminology and concepts in the field of fundraising, the development cycle and how to identify prospective donors that match your organization’s goals and mission. You will also explore career opportunities in the field of Fundraising, delve into current fundraising trends and investigate the challenges fundraising managers are facing today. The course is designed for active-participation and you are encouraged to develop a variety of written documents and products for your fundraising portfolio.

After completing the entire specialization you will be more confident in communicating in fundraising terminology, you will be able to outline the ethical principles that underpin development and fundraising and you will be able to distinguish various types of fundraising campaigns. The course will also equip you with the skills to identify prospective donors and build a base of support for your fundraising programs. At the end of the learning experience you will be able to establish a planned giving program and facilitate a grant writing process.
